The International Day of Non-Violence is observed 147th birth anniversary on October 2, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi. This day is referred to in India as Gandhi Jayanti.
The nation also remembers the former Prime Minister Lal
Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary. Born in 02nd October 1904, he
joined the Indian independence movement in the 1920s and held several
important portfolios in the Jawaharlal Nehru's government including
Railways and as Home Minister.
